Meet the Herbs

• Chives – Common English: Perennial with a mild onion flavour. Hardy and reliable, with edible flowers that brighten summer salads.
• Basil – Sweet Genovese: Classic Italian basil, perfect for pesto or pairing with tomatoes. Tender annual that thrives in warm conditions.
• Mint – Spearmint: Aromatic leaves with a sweet flavour, ideal for teas, desserts and cooking. Vigorous grower best kept contained.
• Parsley – Italian Flat Leaf: Rich in antioxidants and nutrients. Robust flavour, great for cooking and garnishing.

How to Grow

Step 1 – Prepare Coir: Add water to the coir block until fully expanded, then stir to remove lumps.

Step 2 – Sow in Propagator: Hydrate coir discs, scatter seeds over the surface, and cover lightly. Fit the lid and place on a sunny windowsill.

Step 3 – Germination: Keep moist (not waterlogged) until seedlings emerge.

Step 4 – Transplant: Move 4–5 strong seedlings into each bucket planter, keeping roots intact. Direct sowing can also be used to fill gaps.

Step 5 – Grow On: Place in a bright position indoors or outdoors once frost risk has passed. Harvest leaves regularly to encourage new growth.

• Herbs can be grown indoors year-round; place in bright light for best flavour.
• Basil is tender, bring indoors during cold snaps. Chives, mint and parsley are hardy and will return each year.
• Harvest frequently to encourage bushy new growth.
• Mint spreads quickly, keep contained unless using as ground cover.
• Chive and basil flowers are edible, adding colour and flavour to salads and fish dishes.
